Meet Zolpidem Tartrate

I know you all were anxiously awaiting a new drug to study over your breakfast coffee, in the car, on the job, etc. Well, here it is!

Zolpidem Tartrate- a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic of the imidazopyridine class. [zole-PI-dem TAR-trate]

A "hypnotic"? So if I take one, I guess I'll be hypnotized....

"Hypnotic" means it changes your response to painful stimuli, but doesn't change the stimulus itself -- in other words, the generation of pain is still there, but your perception of it is modified. This is very similar to self-hypnosis and other "mental" techniques, and those are thought to be mediated by endogenous opiates.

Bottom line: hypnotic analgesia changes how you feel.

Darn! I was hoping the medicine would jump and say "You are getting veeeerrrry sleeeeeppy..."

If anyone needs hypnosis Vicki and I are quite the experts. One time we hypnotized me into not spilling things at dinner. It worked really well...

Hey Sara,

Happy New Year, almost. Hope you had a great Christmas.
We're in Colorado for skiing at Copper Mountain. The gang is playing a game tonight that reminded me of your blog. It's called Balderdash and they are trying to come up with real or made-up definitions to words in the card deck. The latest word is zwinger - now we have to see what everyone comes up with. Say hi to your mom for me.

I have had cronic trouble sleeping my entire life. I have fiibromygia and was first perscribed Ambien in 1999 and have took it ever since. it dosen't work as good as it use to. I believe that my Dr. is going to stop giving me Zolpidem Tartrate in the near future. I am worried about what I will do with not sleep.
